Toolz interviewed Akon, last week Friday, about his initiative, AKON Lighting Africa which seeks to bring electricity to rural and urban areas across different cities in Africa. So far, 15 countries have been impacted in the last 2 and a half years including a lot of places in West Africa and he and his team just moved into East Africa (Kenya and Rwanda) to kickoff the project.
He was in Nigeria to start a major solar campaign as well as meet with government agencies who are going to aid his effort to electrify the nation. The initial plan was to electrify rural areas but they realized there’s been power outages in the cities as well so they are putting in place energy solutions, that would operate independent of the national grid, to supply power to rural areas and the cities.
On another note, he spoke about his music plans for 2016 and hinted that he might have a house in Lagos, Nigeria.
